No Need for NHS To Spend On 50,000 Gastric Band Operations a Year

Each operation costs the NHS £2,588 but the benefit to the NHS is between £2,000 and £4,000 a year as patients need fewer obesity-related treatments. So that seems a good return on investment. However, each patient costs the NHS time in consultations before and after the operation plus there is lost working time for the patient and the risk that something will go wrong.
