The Role of Pleasure and Reward in Food Addiction

There is a link between food addiction and how our brains are hard wired for pleasure and reward. Most unhealthy foods have addictive qualities. One way to overcome food addiction is to learn hypnosis so that you can be in control of you. With self-hypnosis you can take back your power from addiction.

Hedonic (Happy) System Our brains are hard wired for pleasure and reward in the mesolimbic system (a.k.a. “twinkie circuit”) which can make food act like a drug addiction. Dopamine motivates our behavior and strengthens our anticipation. It encourages us to engage in a complex set of pursuit- and- acquisition behaviors. Dopamine drives desire through a survival-based capacity known as “attentional bias”, which is the exaggerated amount of attention paid to highly rewarding stimuli at the expense of other (neutral) stimuli. This gives rewarding foods (and other rewarding experiences) prominence in our minds so that we focus our attention on pursuing them. We get a hit of “happy.”

Food activates brain reward circuitry both through palatability (involves endogenous opioids and cannabinoids) and through changes in ghrelin, insulin and leptin concentrations (this is how homeostatic and hedonic systems normally interact in the control of food intake and regulation of body weight.

Drugs activate this same circuitry via their direct effects on dopamine cells or indirectly through neurotransmitters that modulate dopamine cells such as opiates, nicotine, y-aminobutyric acid or cannabinoids.

Through hypnosis for weight loss, you can end the addiction to food and create healthy and natural ways of happiness.

How to Lose Stomach Fat

A big stomach with too much stomach fat is an increasing problem for people. Some people are overweight and have big stomachs while other people appear to be somewhat within their weight range but have a protruding stomach. Regardless of the exact circumstances, the way to lose your stomach fat is the same. You need to watch what you eat and you also need to exercise more.

Having extra stomach fat means that you need to change what you are doing. You need to change what you eat and you also need to change at least a couple of your habits.

As you probably already know, the key to losing weight (and shrinking fat) is to burn more calories than you eat. So people who need to lose weight must watch what they eat and they also must exercise so that they burn more calories.

One of the major causes of belly fat is due to consuming too much sugar. One of the worst sugary foods or drinks that you can put into your body is soda. So if you drink soda, especially if you drink at least one a day, stop now and you’ll notice a difference in the size of your stomach within a matter of weeks. Also, whether you believe it or not, some juices are nearly as bad as soda. So be careful drinking juices too.

Another drink that causes stomach fat is beer. There’s no surprise here. Why else would they call it a “beer belly”? So again, if you drink beer, stop. Or at least cut-down on the amount of beer you drink. Also, while it won’t help too much, drinking lite beer will help you lose some stomach fat.

Of course part of losing weight is burning more calories, and the way to do that is to exercise. If you have the time, the money, and the will, you can join a gym and workout on their equipment, but you can lose weight in other ways too. If you just make sure you spend about 20-30 minutes going for a walk everyday, you’ll soon notice your weight going down and your stomach fat disappearing.

Many people believe that the only thing they have to do to get rid of belly fat is sit-ups or stomach crunches. This isn’t true. Sure, sit-ups or stomach crunches will help, but they don’t help as much as people think they will. So, while you can do sit-ups or stomach crunches, you must also watch what you eat and make sure you burn calories by exercising.

Whether you are overweight throughout your body or just have stomach fat, there’s no doubt that you want to have a flatter stomach. In order to lose your stomach fat you need to make sure you watch what you eat and that you exercise. Mainly you want to cut-down on sugary foods and drinks including soda and come juices. You also want to cut-down on or completely stop drinking beer. Finally, you want to burn calories by working out or walking every day.

Weight Loss and Certain Foods

Weight loss experts have discovered that certain foods can actually help you to lose weight without the stress of dieting or exercise.

The down side is that many of us have a tendency to dress these foods up with cheese, sour cream, butter or other calorie-laden flavor enhancers. This causes the weight loss effect to be lost.

Here is a partial list of foods that can help you to lose weight painlessly:
apples, cranberries, grapefruit, lemon mango, oranges, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, tangerines, asparagus, beets, cabbage (green), carrots, cauliflower, hot Chile peppers, cucumbers, endives, garden cress, garlic, green beans, lettuce, onion, papaya, radishes, spinach, turnips and zucchini.

It has been found that those who ate foods that were very low in fat and high in carbohydrates, lost weight steadily, without limiting how much they ate. But those
on high-fat diets could not effectively lose weight even if they ate skimpy portions.

The fact remains that losing weight occurs when we eat fewer calories than we burn. Healthy,well-balanced diets are the safest and surest ways to lose weight and then
be able to keep it off.

Eliminating any one food will affect a loss of weight, but that kind of program isn't healthy or wise and our bodies will begin to crave foods which contain whatever nutrient we are not consuming enough of.

We will crave certain foods and a “craving” is more than just a preference for a certain food or the impulse to buy a certain snack food. It is an intense desire for a certain food that we will go to almost great lengths to satisfy because our bodies need the nutrients in that food.

That is why a balanced diet is the best chose for a weight reduction program.

Top 10 Ways To Lose Weight And Tame The Hunger Monster

Losing weight is about fewer calories in and more calories out. Right? The problem with eating fewer calories than we burn is that intentionally cutting back on food intake inevitably makes people hungry. As you cut back on your daily intake, there is a sense of deprivation, your body goes into panic mode, and you get hungry. You develop cravings and urges to eat. You keep hoping the constant gnawing of hunger pangs will pass, but instead you feel compelled to eat more. Eventually, you go back to your old ways of eating and the pounds creep back on.

While calories do count, it’s a sense of fullness and satisfaction which are necessary ingredients for long term success. Here’s the scenario: When your stomach is empty, nerve impulses automatically signal the brain to increase your appetite. In addition, a powerful brain chemical, neuropeptide Y (NPY), is released to stimulate appetite. If you restrict food for any reason – your body can’t tell the difference between a diet or famine – nerve impulses and NPY soar in an effort to make you eat.

What you need to prevent these signals is larger quantities of the right kinds of foods. Instead of walking around starved all day, there are multiple ways to keep your body feeling happily full, and all the while losing weight. Here are ten powerful and practical ways to keep your hunger satisfied.

Eat Less More Often
Rather than eating one or two large meals, create structure for yourself by dividing your eating into several smaller portions through the day. How frequent should meals be? Three mid-size meals a day may suit some people, but for many five or six little ones may be a better plan. Decide how many meals and snacks work for you and then stick to your plan. Once you get good at following your eating schedule, then you can experiment with becoming looser with your eating. Eating smaller meals more often can give you the constant energy levels that leave you feeling more balanced and productive. Plus, you will be less likely to overeat when you feel reassured that more food is available shortly.

Balance Complex and Simple Carbohydrates
Make those frequent meals about 300 to 500 calories each, with a mix of protein (nuts, eggs, low-fat or non-fat dairy products, beans, fish, lean meat, soy or poultry without the skin), fruits and vegetables, and whole grains to keep insulin and blood sugar levels even.

Simple carbohydrates, found in fruit juice, soda, candy, or highly processed foods like sugary cereals, digest quickly and provide an immediate source of energy. Complex carbohydrates, including vegetables, oatmeal, whole grain breads and cereals, and beans take longer to digest and provide a longer lasting source of energy. Complex carbohydrates are high-fiber foods, which improve your digestion, help stabilize blood sugar levels, and keep your energy at an even level. By creating a balance, and limiting processed carbohydrates you can feel satisfied longer after your meal.

Eat Solidly
Solid food is more filling than liquid food. Yet, we are now drinking more calories than ever before – soft drinks, Frappucinos© and other fancy coffee drinks, frozen Slurpees©, sports drinks, alcohol, juices, sugary teas, and flavored water. A particular problem with liquid calories is that they don’t fill us up or keep us satisfied like solid foods. Without having a sense of fullness, we don’t compensate for the calories in fluids by eating fewer calories from other foods.

Snack Sense
Eat snacks that contain fiber, protein, and water. The more of these ingredients a food contains, the longer it will satisfy. For example, a sandwich made with whole grain bread, lean protein, lettuce and tomato, and an apple is going to be far more satisfying than a few rice cakes and iced tea. In general, the more satisfying food feels, the more effectively they prevent nibbling. Rather than downsizing your normal portions when trying to lose weight, which can make you feel hungry and deprived, try eating more of low-calorie, high fiber, protein, and water content foods. Examples include hummus and whole wheat crackers, oatmeal made with skim milk and topped with raisins, cottage cheese with fresh fruit, or protein energy bars that are high in fiber and fruit and low in sugar.

Pile on the Veggies
Sometimes you’ve just got to have some cookies, ice cream, pie, or chips. But to keep excess weight off – and stay healthy – include lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. High fiber foods (vegetables, fruits, beans, oatmeal, whole grains) fill you up and help you eat less. High fiber foods tend to be bulkier, filling up the stomach quickly. This stimulates receptors in your brain to let you know you’re full. They also slow down digestion, helping keep you full longer. And if you’re full longer, you’re more likely to eat less later on.

Soup is Good Food
Research shows that soup is one of the most satisfying foods there is. Soups may be of value for weight loss because they tend to be low in calories and high in a large volume of liquid. Soup weighs a lot. Just a few minutes after you’ve eaten them, soups and other foods high in water (i.e. vegetable stews or boiled potatoes) fill you up quickly and tell the brain you’re sufficiently fed. Soups made from tomatoes, vegetables, beans, peas, or lentils are especially effective. (Note – soups made with cream, cheese, or sausage are not likely to be beneficial.) Excellent hunger busting soups include barley soup, lentil soup, split pea, tomato, and vegetable soup.

Losing Weight with Peanut Butter
Peanut butter may seem like a guilty pleasure, but research shows it could be a healthy habit. A two-tablespoon portion size is packed with 8 grams of protein, 190 calories, fiber, vitamins and minerals, and is loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Research shows that dieters who eat nuts tend to stick to their diets because the fat and fiber content of nuts are very filling. As a result, they are not as hungry and ultimately eat less and lose more weight.

Protein Power
The addition of protein to a meal can increase the amount of a hunger-fighting hormone. The hormone, known as peptide YY (PYY) may help reduce hunger and aid weight loss. Research suggests that low-fat foods containing protein produce stronger and more sustained feelings of fullness and decrease the likelihood of overeating later on. Including small amounts of seafood, lean meat, skinless poultry, reduced-fat dairy products or soy products with each meal may be excellent appetite subduers. Especially lean choices of protein include flounder, cod, crab, sole, tuna, egg whites, sirloin, tenderloin, skim milk, Canadian bacon, and loin pork.

Drink Up!
A glass of water has absolutely no calories, yet it can help keep you satisfied. The trick is in the timing. Drink water on an empty stomach and it will pass right through you too fast to stimulate a signal of fullness. But ingest it with your meal, and the volume and weight it adds to your meal will make you finish sooner.

Also, many times people mistake thirst for hunger. When your body is sending signals, we tend to assume it needs food. Next time you’re hungry but “shouldn’t be” try drinking a glass of water, Perrier, or herbal tea instead of reaching for a snack. It may be just what you need.

High-Satiety Foods
Rather than downsizing your normal portions when trying to lose weight, which can make you feel hungry and deprived, try eating more of these low-calorie, high-satiety foods. To help guide you in your selections, here is a list of both high-satiety foods and their counterparts.

High-Satiety Foods:
Tomato Soup
Split Pea Soup
Vegetarian Stews
Whole Fruit (apples, oranges, grapes)
Vegetarian Beans
Lentils
Baked Beans
Air-popped Popcorn
Grilled Shrimp
Cod or Sole Fish
Tuna
Oatmeal With Milk
Whole Grain Products
Poached Eggs
Brown Rice

Low-Satiety Foods:
Potato Chips
Doughnuts
Frosted Cake
Croissant
White Bread
Ice Cream
Candy Bars
French Fries
Low-Fat, High-Sugar Cookies
Pasta with Cream Sauce

Breathe
Breathe before you eat, breathe while you eat, and breathe after you eat. Breathing before you eat moves you away from your thoughts and worries and connects you to consciously noticing, smelling, touching, and tasting the food that is in your present moment. Breathing more fully while you are eating brings oxygen into your body that helps digest the food. Breath into the vibrant, welcoming, energy contained within your food.

Feeling hungry can undermine your best-laid weight loss plans. By adopting a few smart strategies listed above, you can make it through those moments of hunger—or prevent them from happening in the first place.

Lose The Extra Weight and You Are Likely To Increase Your Wealth

Overweight Americans who lose a lot of weight also tend to build more wealth as they drop the pounds, according to new research.

The study found that the link between weight loss and wealth gains was particularly strong among white women. Black women and white men also gained wealth as they lost weight, but not as much as did white women. The wealth of black men was basically unaffected by their weight.

There's no way to tell from the data whether losing weight was the reason for the gain in wealth, but the linkage was definitely there, said Jay Zagorsky, author of the study and a research scientist at Ohio State University's Center for Human Resource Research.

“The typical person who loses or gains a few pounds had almost no change in wealth, but those who lost or gained large amounts of weight had a more dramatic change,”
Zagorsky said.

For example, white women who dropped their body mass index score (BMI) – a standard measure of obesity – by 10 points saw a wealth increase of $11,880. White men saw an increase of $12,720 for a similar drop, while black women increased wealth by $4,480.

The study appears online in the “Articles in Press” section of the journal Economics and Human Biology.

The study used data involving about 7,300 people who participated in the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, which is funded primarily by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The NLSY is a nationally representative survey of people nationwide conducted by Ohio State 's Center for Human Resource Research.

The same people are interviewed repeatedly, giving Zagorsky the opportunity to see how the obesity levels and wealth of respondents changed over time. Zagorsky used data from 12 NLSY surveys conducted between 1985 and 2000 All the respondents were between 21 and 28 years old in 1985.

Using each respondent's height and weight figures, Zagorsky was able to calculate their BMI scores. Scores under 18.5 are considered underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 are normal, 25 to 29.9 are overweight, and 30 or higher are considered obese.

The respondents also gave information about their net worth, which included home values, cash savings, stocks, bonds, and auto values, among other assets. Outstanding debts were subtracted from that total to arrive at net worth.

Overall, the results showed that a one unit increase in a young person's BMI was associated with a $1,300 or 8 percent reduction in wealth. But the changes varied dramatically by ethnicity and gender.

Increases in BMI had no link with the wealth of black men and were associated with small negative changes in the wealth of white men. Increases in BMI were linked to medium negative changes in wealth for Black women and large negative changes for white women.

The results suggest each category of race and gender has a different ideal BMI to maximize wealth, Zagorsky said.

White women had peak net worth at the low end of the normal range (BMI 20), white males and Black women reached peak net worth at the upper end of the normal range (BMI 24) and Black males peaked in the obese range (BMI 32).

Zagorsky emphasized that participants in this study had to lose quite a bit of weight to show strong improvements in wealth.

For example, when a typical young person decreased his or her BMI by one point, wealth increased by only $234. But when a person lost enough weight to go from the middle of the overweight category (BMI 27.5) to the middle of the normal category (BMI 21.7), wealth increased by an average of $4,085.

“If you really want to impact your wealth, you have to move from overweight or obese into the normal range,” he said. “You can't just drop 5 or 10 pounds and change your wealth.”

The data in this study can't tell us whether a person's wealth affects obesity, or whether obesity affects wealth. However, Zagorsky said it is more likely that weight influences wealth. An analysis of people in the study who received inheritances – suddenly increasing their wealth – showed no dramatic changes in their BMI scores in the following years. This suggests that wealth does not have a strong influence on weight.

However, if weight does affect wealth, there is also the question of how it does so. One possible explanation would be that overweight and obese people are discriminated against in the workforce, and don't earn as much money as normal weight people. Women, particularly white women, may be held to particularly high standards for beauty, which could explain why they gained more wealth compared to men as they lost more weight. But there is no way to tell for sure from this data, Zagorsky said.

Hypnosis Weight Loss - Does Hypnosis Work?

The word hypnosis never fails to conjure up images of something mysterious, shady or even downright occult in the minds of most of us. Be told the word hypnosis, and in your mind’s eye you may see the silhouette of a black-hatted man waving his pocket watch back and forth. That mysterious hypnotist figure popularized in cinema, comic strips and TV. Its not difficult to reason why most people come to doubt the efficacy or otherwise of hypnosis weight loss.

Though many people believe otherwise, its true that subjects under a hypnotic spell are not really enslaved by a master who can then seize control of their actions. They may appear passive and look like they are asleep to an onlooker but are actually in a very hyper attentive state. It is in this state of high alertness that they become extremely open to suggestion. This explains to a very large extent the effectiveness of hypnosis weight loss techniques.

Do you remember the last time you where so weary and lying in bed and you had that wonderful feeling of being overcome with comfort. You then wished it could remain that way for ever. Well, the truth is - a trained hypnotherapist can help you attain that state quite easily, with your cooperation, of course. It will then be possible for him to make you visualize yourself becoming healthier, happier, richer, more confident, a non smoker or whatever. So also during a hypnosis weight loss session, the therapist can induce in you the mindset you need to lose weight, control your food cravings, exercise regularly and so on.

The rationale behind medical hypnotherapy is that the mind and body are intimately interlinked and influencing one never fails to affect the other. If you suggest to the subconscious mind that the body is free of pain or disease, it will actually bring about that change. This is the reason why thousands around the world have experienced hypnosis weight loss who never thought they could.

There is a vast deal of evidence to support the idea of hypnosis weight loss. Thanks to the power of hypnotic suggestion, innumerable women have made it through childbirth sans the pain and discomfort. It has helped manage the pain of chemotherapy in countless cancer patients. And many ex patients credit their recovery to hypnotherapy alone. The success of hypnotherapy is undeniable and finally doctors today agree that hypnosis weight loss works.

Many people do not believe in hypnosis weight loss. And there are so many others who do not even believe that hypnosis is real. However, they do admit to having drifted off whilst thinking about a loved one, forgetting large chunks of a car journey (commonly known as highway hypnosis), or “going somewhere far away” while reading a book. These are examples of natural trance states. Hypnosis weight loss is about as harmless and without any damaging side effects as any one of those.

Ex smokers and drug addicts have sworn by it. It has consistently helped solve marital problems and rectify criminal behavior. Hypnosis has also been used successfully where lie detector tests have failed! And thousands have benefited from hypnosis weight loss too.

Smoking, drinking and over-eating (the leading cause of weight gain and obesity) are bad habits caused by a malformed or wrong mindset. Proper counseling or even better, hypnotherapy with the help of a trained hipnotherapist can help you to permanently change or erase such mindsets and help you change your life for good.
